Creative Coding

Part 1

I created this simple generative artwork using P5.JS after learning the basics of noise-driven animation on YouTube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZBfLgfsvSk). In this piece, the lines flow like a river, and when you click on the screen, the direction of the flow changes. Based on that, I modified the background color, brush color, and the details of the line flow. Later, I asked ChatGPT for help on how to further interact with the mouse, and now, as the mouse moves across the screen, the blue lines will turn into yellow.

During my experience this week, I find that generative art is incredibly fascinating. By watching basic tutorials and watching others workpieces, I can get inspired to create my own interactive art. By exploring more advanced tutorials and seeking help from ChatGPT, I can create more complex works, which gives me a great sense of accomplishment.

Part 2

I discovered this piece at the Open Processing website. It's an artwork that combines geometry with music. By clicking on the screen, you can select different geometric shapes. As the shapes rotate clockwise or counterclockwise, the piano plays different sounds. What I find particularly interesting about this piece is the way it merges geometry and music, making it fun to interact with.

  1. Hi Megan,
This is the best work I have seen today! It's really creative and beautiful. The blue lines remind me of ocean waves. When I move my mouse across the screen and click, the spot I click turns bright yellow. It feels like each of us in a crowd—shining like our own little light. But as the crowd moves and time passes, we gradually fade away, and the traces we leave behind eventually disappear.

  2. Dear Megan,
I think this piece is very beautiful and clever. The final result brings many images to mind, like blood flowing in veins, or ocean waves. Most interestingly for me, your project reminds me of an animated topographical map, although it is based on sound waves. It makes me think about the dimensionality of sound, and I wonder if there are more projects one could make that would map sound waves into a visual piece.

  3. The amazing thing is that when I see the line where the mouse is located turn yellow, I will let the mouse flow with the line. Technically speaking, due to the strong contrast between the background and the lines, only the lines can be seen turning yellow. This is the simplest solution to achieve this visual effect. Good job!
